MIFARE Classic® (S50) & MIFARE DESFire EV3 are the fastest growing RFID technologies in Sweden and the world. MIFARE® operates at the frequency of 13.56 MHz. MIFARE® cards are often referred to as contactless “smart cards,” which means that MIFARE® cards not only transmit a chip number when they come into contact with a card reader but also allow for storing information on the card. The card can query “which” card reader it is and whether it has the correct key to access the information on the card. MIFARE® has a unique ID number per card.

MIFARE DESFire® has been developed to replace MIFARE Classic® as it has been shown that it is possible to bypass the protection of the information stored by MIFARE Classic®. MIFARE DESFire® can be set at several levels (Security Levels) to offer a step-by-step upgrade of existing MIFARE Classic® systems. Level 1 is fully compatible with MIFARE Classic, and level 3 works with 2556-bit AES encryption for customers with higher security requirements.
